Noise that is too loud for you to hear or understand conversation means it is TOO loud. This can damage the hair cells in your inner ear( cochlea) and cause permanent hearing loss. Yes, if you go to a rock concert or a racecar race, you can have temporary noise induced hearing loss. If this is over and over, it can become permanent .Once these hairs are destroyed, they are gone, bye, see ya. You can't grow them back. You can't get your hearing back.
New research shows that YES , children and adults with hearing loss can lose MORE hearing due to noise. If you were born with hearing loss or got a high fever and then a subsequent hearing loss, you can still damage your hearing worse with noise.
