I do best when I am able to plan ahead, know about a change, and go forward. That said, I don't like to know about a change too far in advance. Once I learn of the change., I want to push forward. When I was pregnant with my second child, my husband got transferred to WI. I knew that my 2 year old daughter and I would join him eventually from Minnesota, but we had to stay back and sell the house. Try doing that while 9 months pregnant,in summer, with a 2 1/2 year old..but I digress. I just wanted to be done with that chapter of my life and move on.
I am not the best at saying goodbye. When I make connections, I make deep ones. It is so hard for me to move on and move away. For a while, I stopped making deep connections, but then I felt that was a void in my life. I realized the saying "It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all" is true.
Nowadays, it is so much easier to stay in touch-we can email, call, text, FB, SKYPE or FaceTime each other. We can even write snail mail letters! I have two wonderful young men graduating this weekend-I worked with one for 7 years and another for 6. It is an honor to have served them and their families. I will miss them deeply, but am ready to have them open their wings and fly. I probably won't keep in touch with them, due to the fact that they are students. i hope to hear about them in the future and learn of their progress. People can always stay in our hearts and we can look at pictures to remember them fondly if we can't be in touch.
As we transition from spring to summer, how will your life change or transition? What will you do to keep in touch with those who might pass on out of your current life?
