This week I was once again lucky enough to go on The Morning Blend. I was on with Collin Richter, Forever Friends' illustrator. As we waited in the Green Room (which is not green,so I would like to know why it is called that), we watched the segment ahead of us. An author started out the show-aha, I thought, clearly, I am here because it is author day. I heard there was a chef and a musician later. Interesting combo, I thought, but I could see how the arts are tied in throughout the day.
As I sat in the Green Room, connections started flowing all around. The woman in the room was a very well known and well respected Author Escort-she sets up author talks/showings/signings and literally escorts the authors around town. WOW, I thought, that is my DREAM to have someone do that for me. Instead of being intimidated, I thought, SOMEDAY this will be me.... Then the connections started flowing.. she was in charge of many festivals up in the North Shore of Milw where I teach Deaf and HH children. I had numerous connections with her and people she worked with.
Interesting..I thought, as I wandered into the holding area for the show. There, I met this cool rocker-looking guy. I loved his style and introduced himself. He was Nathan, the singer from The Happy Racers. He told me after the show, he was going to be going to a school district to finish his week of Artist in Residence with the local author. Together, they were going to work with students to create songs. How cool is that?! What a great connection for artist and student..
Cooler yet-he was going to the school district I teach in... I was starting to get a bit weirded out by all the connections! We did our bit and then heard Nathan sing. He was super fun. It was a short segement and then we were scooted out the front door. I had the pleasure of meeting his dad, and local author Barbara Joosse today for a brief nanosecond.
I am looking forward to going to the elementary school tomorrow to see the show of their finished product. Is it luck/coincidence or life's grand plan that we all met? As I age, I realize I have to take advantage of every opportunity that passes my way. If it is a healthy and safe choice, I say,' Go for it." If these connections don't take me places, at least I will have gotten some good advice on my book, met some cool people , spread some love and learned about an amazing new and fun band!
Here are the videos of our interview and The Happy Racers. Hope you enjoy:)
