Please share with us about your hearing loss-were you born with it, did you lose your hearing,etc.
Michael Hubbs: I was just born Deaf. Sometimes I do wear hearing aids.
Forever Friends: What communication mode/language do you use?
Michael Hubbs: I mostly speak to communicate and sometimes (communicate) with paper and pen.
Forever Friends: What got you interested in Speed Skating?
MH: I started at 10. 2 guys skated faster than me and fell in love with it.
FF: When did you start racing and know that this was a serious passion, rather than a hobby?
MH: I started racing around 12 with a serious passion.
FF: I know Speed Skating takes a lot of dedication and training, on and off the ice. Where do you train?
MH: Pettit is where I train at now. I've trained with Brian Hansen, Shani Davis, those some top Olympians. It is fun.
FF: How do you think your hearing loss has come into play with skating-a hinderance or a help?
MH: Hearing loss has nothing to do with my skating. It has never prevented me. There is always a way. It is all about how you think in your head. I believe that it has a bonus. It has helped me focus better.
FF: Do you know any other Deaf or Hard of Hearing Speedskaters?
MH: I know only one from Canada. He's def a good skater.
FF: Are you a hopeful for the Deaf Olympics or the Winter USA Team?
MH: Hopeful for 2014 Winter Olympics (the USA Olympic Team).
FF: How do you communicate with other skaters/coaches who are not deaf?
MH: I read lips and sometimes I have interpreter with me.
FF: Who Inspires you in life?
MH: Apolo Ohno and Michael Phelps.
FF: Has anyone told you that you are inspiration?
FF: Who is the coolest person you met due to being a speed skater or just because you are you?
MH: Coolest people were Kyle Haun and Tony Goskowicz and my head coach, Kreg Greer. They're all speedskaters.
FF: Who do you hope to meet someday?
MH: Dwayne Johnson and Vin Disel.
FF: What is your next goal in life?
MH: Win the gold in olympics.
