One of her friends owns an Indian kitchen/grocery. I love to go in there and have the owners take food off the shelf and tell me how to mix this with this and create this incredible dish. Other ethnic foods sometimes seem like they would be so scary or difficult-many of the things I have tried only have 3 ingredients and they are amazing and flavorful. It is all about the right spice and timing.
My son has a friend who has come over from Bosnia. His parents are delightful and every time we have his friend over, we are rewarded by getting fresh food when we drop him off. Not baked goods like I give people or a quick minor something-we come back with hot fresh homemade meals. Tonight was no exception.
My son went trick or treating with his friend. After we were done, we were going to take his friend home. We were told that they had food for us. I quickly packed a bag of freshly made pumpkin chocolate chip muffins to give to them in return. When we went in, the family insisted we sit and eat dinner with them! We had already eaten,,but we sat and dined. I had incredible homemade chicken soup and beef and chicken pita with homemade dough. We had to leave to do homework, but they insisted that my family take home extras for later.
The hospitality of European and other countries are so much more wonderful than we in America. I feel like we rush and hurry and off we go. I am going to start making more food at meals and sending it home with others.
What do you like to do when people visit?
